2008: a retrospective…
Join our Facebook Group
I started writing a blog about 2008, but it got way too long and way too personal so I’m doing my retrospective of 2008 with pictures instead.
Current listening: Roky Erickson - Stand for the Fire Demon
But first it’s time to be blunt for a second:
Except from 2004; the year I nearly got killed in a fire, divorced my husband (now ex-husband but still friend), moved into a punk house and just lived from day to day with no job, no money, no nothing I‘ll have to say that 2008 has definitely been the craziest, most miserable but also happiest and most memorable year of my life..
I fell in love, something I rarely do (read: never), and I didn’t handle the situation well at all. I blew it off by the speed of a vodka/cranberry cocktail swiping through the air.…
I moved to another country and not just one right across the border for Norway but one across the big pond.
Before moving to the US I travelled back and forth 8 times in 9 months and just to make thinks perfectly amazing and easy for myself I had a midlife crisis (or personal meltdown) and fell in love in the midst of all the travelling and very hectic and changing work situation..
Now looking back I think things went pretty well after all and instead of heading towards a personal decay I’m definitely a happy person.. Despite a few mind bugging things I’m actually happier now then I’ve been in a very long time..
So I guess the saying: “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” actually is true, and I should probably be Hulk Hogan’s sidekick by now. *Ihaaa!!!*

Me and Vinnie Stigma hanging out stiring up trouble at the shoot!
NAMM in California:
At the airport on my way back to Norway after 3 weeks in NYC I had a little panic attack. I was not ready to leave NYC or the US already. I texted my German friend Yvette, who’s managing Dimmu Borgir, to see if she was going to NAMM. It turned out that she had booked her flight just an hour before I texted her. So I did the same, booked a flight from Oslo to LA at JFK airport just having enough time to go back to Oslo rest for two days and then off to LA.
Yvette picked me up at LAX airport. First we did a little shopping, dining and wining in Hollywood and then off to Anaheim.. I’d been so lucky to get a suite at the Hiltons, neighbour building to the convention center, but I actually only made it inside the center once during the 6 days we were in Anaheim. However my main reason for going wasn’t the convention but to take some time off from work, networking(the Hilton bar), hang out with friends and see the mighty SUICIDAL TENDENCIES!!!!

My wonderful Yvette
me and Yvette’s hotel room, stacked with bananas….

And for a second I got confused.. Was it a music or porn convention?

FEBRUARY
Sick Of It All, Madball and Death Before Dishonor show in Buffalo, NY:
I’ve heard lots of people complaining about Buffalo and I kinda understand what they mean.. All I remember is a lot of snow..
But the show was great and I’m sure Buffalo is too!
Here’s some Hardcore, Grindcore and thrash history for ya!

NRJ awards and loathing in Oslo(for once):
Me and my friend Silenoz(Dimmu Borgir)

Girl in serious need of some tan

Suzie and I always up for trouble!

Oslo Fashion Week:
Me and Charlie at the closing night party.. As you can see we were so over the fashionista thing at this point. We just wanted to get drunk…

… so we went to a bar, drank bottles of red wine (hence the blue lips)and sang along to Amy Winehouse

… next to extremely drunk Swedish guys instead!

MARCH
SXSW in Austin, Texas:
MTV/Headbanger’s Ball was sponsoring the Nordic Metal Showcase together with Music Export Norway, so off to Austin. Me and Charlie travelled alone and hired camera operators in Austin.. It was crazy from the second we arrived and we did 33 interviews during these 5 days, lost our flight from Austin, then stuck for 2 more days in Houston because of a hurricane! Great, and I had two episodes of HBB and two episodes of Spanking New that had to be recorded in Stockholm before the Easter holiday! A big mess to say the least but we made it back home and taped those shows like never before!!
Me and Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed, Icepick, Kingdom Of Sorrow) posing for a Shiner beer commercial.. Well, that’s not entirely true it was just an interview for Headbanger’s Ball…

Enslaved interview on 6th street.

MUNICIPAL WASTE!!!
The last supper!
Matt Pike (High On Fire) got religious or just bummed that SXSW 2008 was over already…

Me and Charlotte stuck in Houston, Texas!

Himsa vs MTV Go-Cart race in Oslo, Norway:
I love Himsa’s video for the track Unleash Carnage and if it had been summer I’d invite the guys out on the Tennis field for an interview but April was pretty damn cold in Norway so I figured Go-cart would have to do. Pettibone threw in the towel after the first lap and after 3 laps Derek won a medal, a champagne shower on the winner pedestal and “Simply the best“ bursting out over the PA.
My intern Madeleine had the time of her life with these guys and raced along while I placed myself safely on the “side track”!
Before the first lap, amped as hell!

Pettibone after the first lap – not so amped anymore.

Derek Harn! And as a safety warning: if you ever meet this guy while you’re out driving, please stop and leave your vehicle immediately!

APRIL
First week of April and it was finally time to go back to NYC and the annual BNB bowl(earlier Superbowl of Hardcore.
BNB Bowl in New York:
The past years I’ve been under a curse that would make sure something happened to either delay or interrupt me from going to a Terror show. It’s been so bad that their manager made a joke and asked me to please not tell anyone I was going to see them at BNB because then something bad would happen to either me or the band.. Luckily no injuries or airline strikes this time, but Lufthansa managed to loose my luggage. So I was stuck waiting for it 24/7 for three days, the day of the show there was tons of complications, came late to venue, was a nightmare getting in, and when I finally made it inside Terror was half way through their set. I missed out a hell lot of great band this day but at least I got to see a few songs of Terror’s set, Madball and Agnostic Front and at the end of the day the event was a full success!

Two nights with Ignite, Terror, Death Before Dishonor in Berlin, Germany:
A very happy me during Terror’s set!

Here’s me Doug and Buske at a local bar

Bryan of Death Before Dishonor checking if he actually HAD been on stage already or if he should get ready.

MAY
I flew in to Germany after recording Headbanger’s Ball and Spanking New in Sweden.
My friend Dirk picked me up at the airport in Dusseldorf and from there we drove to Dortmund. We had to wake up early next morning as we had a little drive over the border to Belgium, but Dirk started making some AMAZING mango vodkatinis and by the second he dug up his old HC 7 inches we knew the night was doomed and ended up with lots of sing alongs and couch dives in Dirks huuuuuuuge red couch!
Couchdives and warmongering in Dortmund and Nuits De L’entrepôt festival in Belgium:

Germans likes to start little wars, even while barbequing..(ups, don’t mention the war)

JUNE

The launch of Age of Conan with Turbonegro:
They had created a Viking village up in the woods on the highest part of Oslo, and let’s just say that even with hundreds of hot half naked barbarians walking around it was still butt freezing cold!

Charlie interviewing Turbonegro for MTV news

Satyricon studio report and Jägermeister tour in LA:
I had already planned a week in LA as Satyricon were in studio there and we had a shoot for MTV but I figured I could need some time off and stayed for 2 weeks to combine vacation, work and midlife crisis.
I had a few days with intensive work other than that I spent most of my time going to shows, hanging with friends and chilling at my hotel by myself doing nothing. It was AMAZING and I learned to love LA as I got to see the more chill sides that I haven’t had time to explore and experience before.
Me and Jessica at Hatebreed/Type O Negative show in Hollywood!

With Matt (Hatebreed) after the show. Me working on some fab gangsigns or something..

Hove festival, Norway:
Jay-Z, The Hellacopters, Dimmu Borgir, Teloch’s balls, Converge, In Flames, Yeasayer, Swollen Members++++
Charlie interviewing Nicke(The Hellacopters) I created a little Trailer trash vibe for this interview – came out great!

I have a great influence on people and suddenly the entire MTV crew had become huge Terror fans.
Here right after crew call realizing they look pretty dumb wearing the same hoodie:

We took Yeasayer with us on a boat ride and gave them a crash course in how to make a Norwegian shrimp roll:
It was hard to stay serious for the Dimmu Borgir interview as Teloch(Gorgoroth) posed naked, and played with his balls next to my camera guy during the entire interview..

My homeboys in Purified In Blood’s comeback show.
A lot of Integrity action going on in this picture..

With Full Force, Germany:
Madball - fucking best show I’ve seen in years. All 3 brothers on stage.. It was moving and unforgettable!
Another unforgettable moment was Hoya 3AM in the hotel hallway dressed up with his bed sheets as a toga! Sorry ladies, I don’t have pictures of that..

Freddy (Madball) on stage with Agnostic Front

Agnostic Front in Oslo and Stavanger:
At Agnostic Front’s show in Stavanger the guys knew I had my birthday coming up so they made me a cake(with chilli peppers and fireworks on it) called me up on stage and sung happy birthday for me!
A very moving and unexpected moment, and at some point my mom came up on stage as well, so there I was on stage with Agnostic Front AND my mom!
I have to thank the guys for this moment.. This turned out to be one of those days that I’ll NEVER forget!!
My mom (which is a old punk rocker) stayed on stage for “Gotta Go” singing along with raised fist. AMAZING!

OCTOBER
Moving to NYC:
So after 9 roundtrips to the US in 9 months it was about time to do the big MOVE!!
I arrived New Ark airport around 7pm, rushed over to Heidi’s and by 9 we were out at a bar meeting up with the rest. I was jet-lagged, wearing sweatpants but had a smashing night with my friends in the city I love so much and from now of was going to be my new home.
Look at these lovely ladies!

Me and Heidi Minx (baby got blue eyes)

Woke up pretty late the next day and around 5pm I headed over to the Pyramide on L.E.S. for a Sunday Hardcore matinee. I was really excited about it as it would be the first show after getting back to NYC, and I was STOKED to see KILLING TIME!
As expected Killing Time was awesome, and the crowd totally crazy!
The picture quality is TERRIBLE, but I want to show you NYHC 5pm on a Sunday afternoon:

KILLING TIME

A happy me watching Killing Time!

Then off to see my Scandinavian friends in Unleashed!

The national world zombie day!

Halloween, Murphy’s Law in Philly:
The crowd had obviously been looking forward to this moment, as Ive never heard or seen anyone get so excited over a line check before.
It was craziness overload from the second Murphy’s Law entered the stage. Space suits, beer, Jägermeister, Alice in Wonderland who had just lost her rabbit, and I noticed Jimmy Gestapo had gaff tape on his ass. So Apparently I wasn’t the only one who had to fix my “back area” that night (more to come..)
NOVEMBER
We were supposed to film the entire season for HBB Norway and Denmark from NYHC tattoos:

But for various reasons we moved to:

I love these peeps - Kevin(director) and Anne(HBB Denmark)

Paul Booth and mini Christ!

Random night out with Holly and guess who we ran into?? VODKA LADY!!
Holly and me with vodka lady in the middle:

Thanksgiving:
So it was time for my FIRST Thanksgiving in USA and I spent together with friends at Jorge’s from Merauder’s house. It was so nice, just a full day with lots of food, wine, music, card games and more food!
The 3 chef’s Dina, Stephanie and Erin made the best food ever, we played Uno which I was pretty damn good at!
And my new buddy Devin, Dina and Jorge’s son, thinks I’m super cool! Maybe because my friend Mike told him I’m a tough Viking from a land far up North and that’s probably why I also had to play Batman and Robin with him all night… And he’s pretty badass himself doing backing vocals on a track on the coming Merauder album!!!
About to skinny dip in Dina’s lovely cherry sauce!
Me pouring Champagne to the master chef:

In between being extremely busy playing Batman and Robin (fighting against the Joker) I had time to sit down for a few, sip on my wine and pose for the master photographer(4 year old Devin)

DECEMBER

Join The Army!

I really believe the universe guides us towards certain situations and certain people, and then its up to ourself to figure things out and make it work - this being work situations, love, friendships or just life in general..
I just know that some persons were ment to be a part of my life from day one, and I’m so grateful I’ve found them!
Happy New Year!!!
