Yes, this is Meryl Streep’s coffee cup, or maybe it’s cappuchino, or what’s left of it after we had a chat about her new movie “It’s Complicated”.
- So what was the most fun scene in the movie?
- Pretending to be stoned just because it’s fun. Everyday, we’d come into work. Everyday and all we had to do was pretend to be stoned. You just laugh all day and do stupid things and then make the other person laugh. It’s like heaven and then we had to do the serious crying stuff.
- In your real life if you have some sort of trouble do you go to therapy?
- Oh, you mean like Jane goes to her therapist? Life gave me two great sisters-in-law. I have two brothers. I have no sisters but I have two great sisters-in-law who are like my sisters. So I go to them when I have a problem. I have girlfriends from college that I’m very close to and that I see every year, twice a year and I usually travel with. We go and have some horrible retreat and self-analyze each other. It sounds awful but it’s great.
- Have you thought about directing yourself?
- No, no. Too much. I have never thought about it because it takes too much time. It doesn’t stop at six o’clock. You like to go out and have dinner and go to theater. I like to have a life. A director has no life.
