The little bakery Pinisi sure got some sweet secrets.

I discovered the delicious assortment at Pinisi Bakery on 4th Street near 1st Avenue when I moved to East Village in November. Since then I’ve stopped by every morning to buy coffee (and chocolate chip cookies).

Lorraine, who works at Pinisi, revealed to me that their best selling cake and cupcake is Red Velvet.
- I don’t exactly know what it consists of, but it sure is my favorite, she told me.

She’s tried to get her hand on the recipe for a long time, but the owner of the bakery will not reveal his secret cake mix.
- He wouldn’t even tell me how he makes the frosting, she cries.

A Red Velvet Cake is a type of rich and sweet cake, with a distinctive dark red to bright red or red-brown color, which makes it in to the perfect Valentine cake.

It doesn’t get much sweeter than these juicy cupcakes.

Pinisi also offers all sorts of cakes, fresh bread, fruit drinks, assorted pastries - And if you buy pastry on Tuesdays - you’ll receive a free coffee with your purchase.
