Our new pal Kiefer Sutherland had his dial firmly set on party mode when we met him at Spotted Pig in West Village Saturday night.
Kiefer was a bit proud after nicking some sunflowers out of a vase at Spotted Pig, but we soon understood that Kiefer had free reign of the place. What gave us the clue? It started to dawn on us when the waiters closed the bar for all the other guests at 4, pulled the curtains, and reopened the bar for Sutherland and his entourage (uh us) downstairs.
More than anything Kiefer wanted to discuss socialism - and he strongly underlined his desire to move to Oslo. “I love Oslo”, he slurred, and then admitted that he’d never been to Norway. Unfortunately his girlfriend wouldn’t join him to the cold and socialist North - so Kiefer just as well went down on his knees and pleaded with us both to please make a pro forma marriage pact with him, and stuff him in our suitcase on the return trip to Norway. For a minute there we both thought the evening would turn into an episode of ‘The Bachelor’ - but luckily - there was sunflowers enough for everyone.
And while Kiefer stole flowers - we stole glasses …
Not everyone was that happy to see glasses disappearing and then reappearing on strange noses, though …
Even so, the general mood was quite good …
Actually, we got more proposals along the way …
But someone had to pay for our feast. This time Kief was the lucky one. And lucky for him that the two sensible Norwegian girls managed to reason with him that a 2000 dollar-tip simply was too much… The waitress was probably not that happy…
But - suddenly it was almost seven in the morning, and we had to say good-bye for now. Kiefer showed himself to be a trueborn gentleman by paying our cab ride home, before he retired with his buddy …
Looks like you had a wonderful evening! Unfortunately, my Google toolbar does not translate Norwegian to English, only does the reverse! Can someone please help us out so that we can share your lovely blog? Maybe Peggy? You seem to have been able to read it. Thanks so much, and glad you had so much fun!
Sorry that we are not writing in English. We are planning to make an English version in the near future though.
And for the record. The bar was closing, so all the other guests had to leave anyway - so Kiefer was not throwing out any other guests. He is a very cool guy.
you are so lucky to have met him and got great pics!

Thank you for clarification. A few of us were talking it over and thought that might actually be the case. It didn’t sound like Kiefer to throw people out of a bar but it does sound like him to ask for it to be kept open for people to have fun.

Just one question: if these photos were taken last Saturday night, why does the “Date taken” data on the photos show 1/1/2006?

Where do you see a date?

That can’t be the date - Kiefer was in Europe filming ITYTKM on New Year’s 2005. Unless this isn’t NYC at all.
October 22nd, 2008 at 3:59 pm
it is nyc, and its most certainly the pig! i think the date is somehow wrong…
