Let’s talk about sex, baby

I was definitely not prepared to see naked breasts last night when I went to see “Mountain Jews” – a little play in a little theater.

The play tells the story of a young Jewish Orthodox man from Brooklyn who schleps his new bride to Israel in order to consummate their marriage right below the “Gate of Paradise” on a sacred spot in Hebron. His wife insists of eating rugeach instead of having sex, and along comes Prophet Muhammed and tries to steal his bride and rape him.

I guess you kind of have to know the history of Jews to understand the play at Triad Theater on The Upper West Side. The 3 actors involved showed some strong performances though, and it was sort of engaging to watch them getting more and more horny. But so much talk about “pucking” – which meant fucking stunned me a little bit, especially since I was sitting so close to the stage. I was really not prepared to see a naked breast, or actually two of them right in front of me. Mostly I was surprised that religious people could talk like that. But what do I know – an agnostic from Norway.

Maybe they don’t know it in Norway, but guess what: Jews have sexual organs too. Surprise, surprise!
I saw this play a week ago and thought it was brilliant. Even though I happened to be African-American and not Jewish.
    Welcome to New York!
