Sushi, swapping glasses and chatting about Norway were centerpieces of my Tuesday night with Jamie Lidell.
(Our blogger Celine reports)
When Jamie Lidell threw a concert at Highhall Ballroom Tuesday night Kjersti and me were all set. After the concert I ended up talking with the saxophone player (he can play two saxophones simultaneously) and voila, suddenly I was invited down to Village Yokocho in East Village to eat sushi with Jamie and the rest of the band.
A sweaty saxophone player and me:
You’ve never heard about Jamie Lidell? The band is plaguing hit lists these days with the song ‘Another Day’, a good mix of soul, pop, electronica and R & B.
The band is popular in the States as well - and I got a signed record. Huzzah.
In the Japanese restaurant Village Yokocho in East Village the entire band were waiting with sushi and Japanese sake.
The guys stopped by Oslo in August when they played at the Øya-festival and they were very fascinated by Norway. Jamie’s personal favorites were the fresh air and the night club BLÅ. On his next visit he would like to go eel-fishing and try some mountain-skiing (the Brit didn’t exactly lose his enthusiasm when I told him about Norwegian afterski culture).
As many other celebrities these days, Jamie has given in to the nerdy glasses-trend. Eyewear lover as I am, he gave me leave to try the freshly bought pair of glasses from Paris, and they did the trick of making even a true-bred blonde look like a sophisticated professor. The lenses were so strong that I literally felt I was wearing beer goggles, and Jamie admitted he didn’t really see too much through them either. After making sure that he didn’t have any squiggly sushi bits stuck between his teeth, he was more than willing to pose for pictures and made some funny faces.
Jamie’s party mood never seemed to wear out, and at 4am he was ready to move on to new adventures. My quota of rock’n roll and sushi was really covered for the night, so I told them all a pleasant goodbye.
