Bar 89 in Soho is about more than food …
The frighteningly huge bouncers in front of this Soho hot spot, makes it look like an over cool lounge with a pretensious image at night. Some would probably shake their heads and pass this place by as yet another restaurant-bar inspired by ‘Sex and the City’. But for those of us who love SATC, what do we care? Bar 89 is an especially popular spot for ‘after work drinks’, but is also perfect for a late lunch. The awesome special effects in the toilets are almost as infamous as the tall drinks. The first impression you get of the unisex toilets can point to a possibly traumatic experience. The doors of the booths are made of transparent glass. But the second you lock the door, the glass will miraculously grow pale, and voilá - you are invisible.
The cocktails are massive and strong, and the bartenders lay their entire bodyweight and soul into the crushing of mint leaves and lime for the heavenly mojitos. Or how would you fancy a chocolate martini? Slurp. The art on the walls is exchanged on a regular basis. The current esthetical profile are paint brushes dipped in different colors, hanging from the ceiling by thin fishing lines. The tall booths are perfect for a relaxed lunch after a spree of vigorous shopping in the many art galleries and designer shops of Soho. And the portions are elephant-sized. Almost. We can at least guarantee that they’ll make you full. The salads and the sandwiches are sure bets. PS. The balcony gives you by far the best view.
