Meg Ryan was in a splendidly silly mood when I met her here in New York.
We spoke a bit about her new movie “The Women” – and a bit about romance, love, infidelity and betrayal. As some of you might know, Ryan has gone through a tough divorce these last years, and the romantic, tousled-haired blonde we remember from the gay, colorful eighties has been lost in hibernation for some time. But now she’s back, in good old giggly Meg Ryan-style.
And the “Sleepless in Seattle”-actress really let the laughter loose when the German journalist asked her:
“Cher was singing: Do you believe in life after love? – Do you?”
Lately the fuss around Ryan has largely been about her lips and her relationship to Russel Crowe, but back in the day (the eighties) the star from “You’ve got Mail” was America’s sweet heart. Every girl wanted her hair, and every boy wanted to do a slow dance with her (or cheek-to-cheek, as we were prone to calling it in the eighties). Most people probably also remember her from the legendary fake orgasm-scene in “When Harry met Sally”. Here’s a small reprise. Go Meg! And if you feel like copying her stunt – you’ll find Katz’s Deli on 205 East Houston Street here in New York.
